Jamaat-E-Islami Issues 3-Day Ultimatum To K Electric To End Load Shedding
Amir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi has given a three-day ultimatum to Electric, a private electricity distribution company in the city, to end load shedding.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that the issue of power load shedding was deteriorating and if the issue was not resolved within three days, he would announce a protest. He said that no relief was being given to the citizens by the government whereas 16 years after the privatization of K Electric, only power generation could be increased by 11%.
Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that NEPRA relaxes the electricity, why the privatization of K Electric was done to end load shedding? Let it be self-sufficient, that's why it was sold to KESC. He said that the number of electric consumers has now reached 2.9 million as against 1.8 million in 2005. The government now subsidizes a private company to the tune of Rs 95 billion.
The Amir of Karachi of Jamaat-e-Islami said that the heirs of K-Electric do not even know who owns it. Are anti-state elements doing this? He further said that the citizens of Karachi are suffering from load shedding, the federal government is the biggest culprit and the PPP, which has been in power for 13 years, is not ready to speak on this issue.
